Old Town Project (with Bridge Builders)
The old town project is a partnership between Bunyan Baptist Church and Bridge Builders Christian Trust.
Hilary Davies, a member at Bunyan who works for Bridge Builders is serving the community one day a week, building relationships with our local, old town schools; creating opportunities to make God's love real and accessible for all.
During the first year of this exciting new project work has been concentrated in two local schools; Woolenwick Infants and Woolenwick Juniors. Working in partnership with members of staff from Holy Trinity and Christ the King, a team of volunteers has been recruited to help lead assemblies and story clubs, mentor children, assist with RE lessons and book weeks.
Latest News: Autumn Term 2010
"At Woolenwick Infant school story club is set to run later this half term
starting at the very beginning – creation and stories from Genesis.
Dave Martin is helping with the planning; it’s great to be working along
side him.
A team of volunteers have agreed to join in again, but we’re always
looking for new recruits. Lunch hour each Monday from 27th Sept til 18th
Oct.
I am also delivering assemblies this term, Phil Gibb & Dave Martin are
going into talk about this summer’s Kadoma trip. The school are also
taking part in the Samaritan’s Purse appeal along with help of Kirsty
Homfray-Cooper.
At Woolenwick Junior School, Susannah Underwood from Holy Trinity Church
and I continue to plan and deliver assemblies twice a month. There are
class visits to Holy Trinity planned later this term. The exciting new
development is to hold a lunch time club called Telling Tales for 4
Mondays after half term, an opportunity to tell God’s story through song,
story telling, games and group activities. This is the age group that
directly links to Bunyan’s Thursday Club, so we hope to encourage children
to get involved.
Telling Tales needs volunteers to run it, can you give an hour on Mondays
during November? If you can-contact me.
There are always other volunteering opportunities at Bridge Builders, so
please contact me if you’d like to find out more."
