Latest News
The following information is from Newsletter 21(April 2011), which is downloadable in full at the bottom of this page.
"Rain: We never did have enough rain again this year: No rice and only a little maize. Also because the rainfall has been poor, the electricity is rationed – with no outlook of relief for another year.
A new bishop: Bishop Makaya moved into another Diocese last year and so we had no bishop for nearly six months. However, on 6 April, we had finally passed through the long process of re-election and we are happy that our new bishop was elected. Bishop Elias Chakupewa is coming into office at a very difficult time in Tanzania and Tabora due to economic and other hardships.
St Philips: The wards have become a lot busier in the last two months, but the outpatients on the other hand are much less busy. This is usual to a degree in February, but should have picked up by now. All other hospitals and shops etc are also suffering: It is most likely because of the poor harvest that we fear. Generally, people stay at home until they are very, very sick and then they need to be admitted.
Mobile clinics: Mama Ndugu broke our previous record of 415 patients in one day with 425 last week! It is very exhausting, especially as 260 were children! We are now in three villages once a month and have several villages that are applying for us to come to them also. Juma and Yasini are contacts through the villages, and it’s most likely that most of the patients would have never been taken anywhere else had we not come.
Home leave: After Easter I am coming on home leave for a few months. I hope to meet most of you and will be travelling all over the UK.
Prayer points
- Mama Evelyn Ndugu, who is responsible for everything (including Juma) while I am away.
- Juma (see Newsletter 21), that he will recover fully from this reaction and cope with his new drugs.
- Bishop Elias as he leads the Diocese in this new phase as the third Bishop of Tabora and the Diocese to find a new unity in their trust in Christ.
- The many ‘stray’ and other people/clients that we encounter. Theresa showed us that even we tend to walk by on the other side of the road, but people can be helped... for a larger vision, a warmer heart, and space to put them all..."
